Review: Madina Nutrilash Mascara

Vi eravate accorte che sul sito di Madina ci sono i saldi? Effettivamente ci sono da un bel po', ma nel caso non ne abbiate approfittato o nel caso ne vogliate approfittare nuovamente, sono in arrivo un po' di recensioni Madina che magari vi potranno aiutare coi vostri acquisti.

Ovviamente vi suggerisco di guardare anche le precedenti recensioni del marchio e i look creati con i prodotti Madina, cliccando qui.

Oggi vi parlerò del mascara Nutrilash, uno dei mascara di punta di questo marchio, parte della linea Revolution.

Questa è la descrizione che trovate sul sito:

Cosa ne penso io?

La formula di questo mascara è fantastica. All'inizio è molto liquida, quindi bisogna fargli prendere un pochino d'aria con l'utilizzo, ma la formula è davvero eccezionale.

Resiste veramente molte ore senza far cadere quegli orribili pezzettini/residui neri (nemmeno se vi grattate gli occhi!) ed è anche vero che incurva e allunga parecchio le ciglia. Per quanto riguarda il volume, su di me non ho notato risultati eccezionali, direi mediamente buoni, però.

Il colore è un bel nero pieno; le ciglia restano morbide, come se fossero naturalmente colorate e questo fa sì che si possa ripassare il mascara anche dopo che si è seccato (per ritoccare il trucco o per passare dalla mattina alla sera) senza fare orribili grumi.

Una cosa decisamente positiva e innovativa di questo mascara.

in questa foto il mascara non era ancora stato usato per la prima volta, quindi lo scovolino era pieno zeppo di prodotto.

Ma cos'è che non mi piace di questo mascara (sì, molto marzullianamente mi faccio le domande e mi rispondo da sola)?

Lo scovolino. Il famoso applicatore sferico che dovrebbe acchiappare le ciglia una ad una e dare l'effetto ventaglio...è uno stress unico! Io non riesco assolutamente ad usarlo al meglio: mi sporco tutta la palpebra, sia quella mobile che quella fissa e quindi non riesco mai ad usare questo mascara quando metto l'ombretto. Il fatto è che questo applicatore è troppo grande! Non è tanto la pallina ad essere scomoda, ma la dimensione della pallina, perlomeno secondo me.

Per quanto mi riguarda questo vanifica tutti gli sforzi fatti per creare la formulazione del mascara, che di per sé è davvero ottima.

Nutrilash mascara è in vendita presso tutti i negozi monomarca Madina in Italia e sul loro sito ufficiale a € 20,00. Attualmente, però, è in saldo sul loro sito con una riduzione del 30%, quindi € 14,00. Se volete provarlo, mi sembra davvero il periodo ideale per acquistarlo.

E voi che lo avete già provato, ditemi: solo io non riesco ad usare l'applicatore del Nutrilash?

Oppure dobbiamo chiedere tutte in coro a Madina di cambiarlo?

In quest'ultimo caso, quale suggerimento avreste per migliorarlo?

Review: Clinique Clarifying Lotion 2

This name should be in the back of every beauty junkie's head, as it is the second step to the famous (and highly debated) 3-Step Skin Care System patented by Clinique.

Now, while the concept behind the 3-Step System is commonly known, some of you may not know that its second phase, consisting in a sweep over the face with Clarifying Lotion makes a huge difference compared to your usual "after cleansing tonic" action.

On the other hand, those of you who are familiar with Clarifying Lotion and have used in the past may recall that it is not a tonic at all. In fact, I am pretty sure a lot of you got to the point where I got: you got your skin burnt from using it. Yes, you did read what you read: burnt!

Questo nome non dovrebbe suonar nuovo se siete appassionate di bellezza, visto che questo prodotto corrisponde alla seconda fase del celebre (e molto dibattuto) Sistema di Cura della Pelle a 3 Fasi ideato e brevettato da Clinique.

Ora, benché il concetto del 3 Fasi è largamente noto, alcune di voi potrebbero non sapere che la sua seconda fase, che consiste in una "passata" di Clarifying Lotion su tutto il viso ha una grossa differenza rispetto all'azione di un qualsiasi tonico per così dire "normale".

D'altro canto però, chi di voi già conosce Clarifying Lotion e l'ha usata in passato, dovrebbe ricordarsi che questo prodotto non è propriamente un tonico. Infatti, sono quasi certa che molte di voi si siano ritrovate nelle mie stesse condizioni, ossia ad avere la pelle bruciata per l'uso di questo prodotto. E sì, avete letto bene: bruciata!

Clinique Clarifying Lotion is, in fact, an exfoliating liquid lotion. It contains a high percentage of alcohol, therefore, you should be thoroughly taught how to use this product.

Clinique Clarifying Lotion, infatti, è una lozione liquida esfoliante. Contiene un'alta percentuale di alcool, e pertanto occorre che vi si istruisca bene su come usare il prodotto in questione.

Just so you know, before I get to the actual review, Clinique improved the formulation by reducing the percentage of alcohol last year (if I remember correctly, it was exactly one year ago that they reformulated it! - happy birthday, new C.L.!) so no, you are not going to get burnt anymore, but you do need to be carefully advised on what your lotion number is, as there is one for each skin type, and they all interact with your skin type differently.

I did notice the change in the formulation, having tried the "classic one" and the new one, and I can testify to the fact that the latter is much more gentle and easy to use.

A titolo informativo, prima che passi a recensire il prodotto, vi dico che Clinique ha migliorato la formulazione riducendo la percentuale di alcool proprio lo scorso anno (e se ben ricordo è stato proprio un anno fa! - buon compleanno, C.L.!) quindi, non temete: non vi brucerete più, ma dovete stare comunque attente e farvi consigliare bene su quale numero di lozione siete, dato che ne esiste una per ogni tipo di pelle, e che ognuna interagisce in modo diverso con ogni tipologia.

Io ho notato la differenza della riformulazione, avendo provato sia la "classica" che la lozione nuova, e posso testimoniare che l'ultima è molto più delicata e facile da usare.

So, how should you use it?

You have to pour a bit onto a cotton ball, and sweep it over your face only once and in one direction for each part of your face. Do not go over an area you had previously used this lotion on more than once. It will "burn".

With this product, less is more. You don't need to pour 1 gallon onto your cotton ball.

One thing you have to bear in mind (and I cannot stress this enough) is that you need to use the correct lotion for your skin type. If you do not trust your local shop assistant's opinion (I totally understand that), go to the Clinique website and take the test to find out what your skin type (in their numbering) is, and take it from there.

I did that, and I found out I have a dry to combination skin, which in their numbering is 2, and the lotion I am using works wonders for me.

E dunque, come bisogna usarla?

Bisogna versarne un pochetto su un batuffolo di cotone e passarlo sul viso una sola volta ed in una sola direzione per ogni parte del viso. Non ripassate su un'area in cui avevate già usato il prodotto. Brucerà.

Con questo prodotto è decisamente meglio essere parsimoniosi. Infondo, non avete bisogno di metterne un litro sul batuffolo.

Una cosa che dovete tenere bene a mente (e mi sembra importante ripeterlo) è che bisogna trovare il tipo di lozione giusto per il vostro tipo di pelle. Se non vi fidate della commessa del negozio (e vi capisco!), andate sul sito della Clinique e fate il test per scoprire quale tipologia di pelle (nella loro numerazione) siete e continuate da lì.

Io l'ho fatto ed ho scoperto di avere una pelle da secca a mista, che nella loro numerazione è la tipologia 2 e la lozione che ho funziona perfettamente.

Ok, but what will Clarifying Lotion do, once I learn how to use it?

It will control your excess oil. It will exfoliate daily and gently, taking away the dead cells sitting on the surface of your skin, allowing the re-generation process to begin.

Most importantly, it will even out your skin and drastically reduce the appearance of your pores without clogging them.

D'accordo, ma che effetti ha Clarifying Lotion, una volta che si è in grado di usarla correttamente?

Controllerà l'oleosità in eccesso. Esfolierà delicatamente e giornalmente la vostra pelle, rimuovendo le cellule morte che restano sulla superficie della pelle, in modo da favorire il processo di rigenerazione.

Ma la cosa più importante e visibile è che uniformerà la grana della pelle e ridurrà la visibilità dei pori senza ostruirli.

I personally cannot recommend this product enough, as it contributed to improve the appearence of my skin a lot during the past year.

It is easily accessible everywhere, and it retails for 15 euros I believe, for 200ml. You may think it is a lot, but I can assure you, if you use it properly - both morning and evening - it will last you almost a year. As I said, less is more with it, so on the long run you're saving money.

Personalmente non posso che raccomandare il prodotto, visto che ha contribuito a migliorare la mia pelle durante l'ultimo anno.

E' facilmente accessibile ovunque e costa, se non sbaglio, una quindicina di euro per 200ml. Forse penserete che sia troppo, ma vi posso assicurare che, se usato bene, anche due volte al giorno (mattina e sera) vi durerà quasi un anno. Come ho già detto, è meglio usare parsimonia e nel lungo raggio, sicuramente avrete risparmiato dei soldi.

Obviously, this is my personal opinion of the Clarifying Lotion 2, but bear in mind I cannot speak for other skin types and how they react to it. My best advice is get a sample, and look for reviews online.

Ovviamente queste sono le mie opinioni personali sulla Clarifying Lotion 2, e tenete bene a mente che non posso parlare per gli altri tipi di pelle e la loro reazione a questo prodotto. Il mio consiglio è quello di procurarsene un campione e di guardare recensioni online prima di un eventuale acquisto.

Preview: The Body Shop e le idee regalo per San Valentino

San Valentino: un'altra buona scusa per scambiarsi dei regalini. Che facciamo, ce ne priviamo?!
E allora, via con le idee regalo per chi, al mio contrario (!) lo festeggerà.
Le prime idee arrivano da The Body Shop, che ci propone una nuova linea: Chocomania, che recensirò a breve.
Eh sì, lo so, più che stimolare pensieri cosmetici, risveglia un certo languorino. Ma vediamo nel dettaglio i prodotti di questa linea:

1. Esfoliante per il corpo

2. Crema doccia (o in alternativa le saponette a forma di cuore!)

3. Idratante corpo - lozione leggera.

4. Burro per il corpo

5. Burro per le labbra

Ed in occasione di San Valentino ci sono delle confezioni molto carine, che oltre a questi prodotti contengono un utilissimo guanto per l'esfoliazione (di cui avrei bisogno pure io, nel caso qualche Valentino stesse leggendo questo post...).

Review: The Body Shop White Musk Libertine - fragrance review

White Musk Libertine è l'ultima fragranza nata in casa The Body Shop: un concentrato, come dice il nome, di muschio bianco, fiori dai dolci profumi, crema chantilly e perfino legno d'ambra.
Forte, ma in maniera avvolgente, il profumo di White Musk Libertine è il paradigma della personalità femminile: un incontro/scontro tra speziato e dolce.

Personalmente, non è tra le mie fragranze preferite, nonostante ne riconosca la validità - ma per chi adora il muschio e i profumi floreali, questo è decisamente un grosso affare.
La fragranza, difatti, persiste per parecchie ore (pur essendo quello che ho provato io un eau de toilette e non de parfum), ha una boccetta senza grandi fronzoli che si può adattare benissmo alle vostre "esigenze di borsetta" (con tanto di tappo resistente!) ma anche graziosa e soprattutto ha un prezzo decisamente onesto: 15 euro per 30 ml.

Solitamente è il profumo che ora porto con me nelle trasferte o durante le serate particolari, proprio per queste sue caratteristiche.

Decisamente consigliato per: le amanti del muschio bianco, le amanti dei profumi forti, le persone che amano pagare prezzi onesti per il vero valore delle cose.

E se vi piace questa fragranza, sappiate che The Body Shop ha un'intera linea di White Musk Libertine, compresa di simpatiche confezioni regalo con tanti prodotti ad un prezzo accettabilissimo!

Review: Illamasqua Cream Pigment in Depravity

When Illamasqua launched their Theatre of the Nameless collection (which you can get a reminder of by clicking here) they came out with two new Cream Pigments.
I was sent one of them, Depravity, to try and review. Considering my passion for Cream Pigments, I couldn't be happier!

Cream Pigments are what I call the ultimate versatile products, as they can serve a multitude of purposes: eyeshadow, eyeshadow base, blushers, concealers/illuminators, contouring, lipstick...one product has at least 2 or 3 usages!
They are also water-resistant and mat, which makes them winners in my books!

A me ne è stato spedito uno, Depravity, per provarlo e magari farvi anche una recensione

Conoscendo la mia infinita passione per i Cream Pigments non potevo esserne che felice!

I Cream Pigments sono la versatilità per eccellenza.

Hanno una moltitudine di utilizzi: ombretto, base colorata per ombretto, correttore/illuminante, contouring, rossetto...

...un solo prodotto ha almeno 2 o tre usi.

Sono anche resistenti all'acqua e opachi, il che per me li fa salire molto di quotazione!

Depravity is a splendid magenta, which under certain lights can be seen as more on the pink side, or more on the purple side. I loved it, ever since I got it.
I wear it as a lipstick and a blusher, and sometimes as an eyeshadow. It does not tend to crease, even in the scorching summers of Sardinia
When I swatched it, I only used the tiniest amount of products, just to make you see what the color pay-off really is: exceptional!

Depravity è uno splendido magenta, che sotto determinate luci può essere visto più sul rosa o più sul viola.

Io l'ho adorato da quando l'ho ricevuto.

Lo uso come rossetto e come blush, e qualche volta ache come ombretto.

Non ha la tendenza a fare pieghe, anche nelle caldissime estati sarde.

Quando l'ho swatchato, ho utilizzato davvero una piccolissima quantità di prodotto

in modo da mostrarvi la scrivenza per quella che è:

eccezionale!

Overall, along with Delirium, this is my favorite Cream Pigment.
Of course, you can mix all shades to come up with your own personal color!
Definitely worth the £ 17,00 price tag!

In generale, devo dire che insieme a Delirium, questo è il mio Cream Pigment preferito.

Ovviamente, ricordatevi che potete mischiare i pigmenti per avere il vostro colore personale.

Decisamente vale le 17 sterline!

Review: Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Queen of the Night (with swatches)

Some months ago, Illamasqua launched their first ever unisex fragrance called Freak, and to celebrate that they created a matching collection which includes the item I am about to review: their Pure Pigment in Queen of the Night.

Now, I have already reviewed one of their fabulous Pure Pigments (Zeitgeist, which you can read about here), but this one is amazing! I am in love with this color, and I swear, if you find it gorgeous in the following pictures, you are going to literally adore it in person.

Alcuni mesi fa Illamasqua ha lanciato la sua prima fragranza unisex, Freak, e per celebrare

la sua uscita ha anche creato una collezione apposita, che includeva il prodotto

che sto per recensire: il Pure Pigment nella tonalità Queen of the Night.

Ora, ho già recensito uno dei loro favolosi Pure Pigments (Zeitgeist, del quale vi invito a leggere questa recensione),

ma questo è davvero splendido!

Sono innamorata di questo colore, e giuro che se lo trovate stupendo nelle foto seguenti, lo adorerete sicuramente di persona.

The following swatches have been taken in day light, in two different conditions.

On the left, you can see the pigment in its wet usage, and on the right you can see it just as it is when it is dry.

I find that the wet usage emphasizes the sparkles, especially the purple/blue ones.

I can definitely see this as a beautiful eyeliner, mixed with some MAC Fix+!

Gli swatches che seguono sono stati fatti con la luce del giorno in due condizioni diverse.

Sulla sinistra, potete vedere il pigmento usato bagnato, e sulla destra il pigmento asciutto.

Personalmente, trovo che il suo uso bagnato ne enfatizzi le pagliuzze luccicanti, specialmente quelle viola e blu.

Sono certa che con un po' di Fix+ di MAC sul pennello, possa diventare uno stupendo eyeliner!

I believe this was a limited edition, but if you like pigments, definitely try to find this product somewhere.
It usually retails for £ 15,50 - so if you want to splurge on a pigment, try this!

Credo che questa fosse un'edizione limitata, ma se vi piacciono i pigmenti, vi suggerisco di

cercarlo da qualche parte.

Di solito il suo prezzo è di 15,50 sterline, perciò se volete spendere molto per un pigmento, provate questo!

Review: Benefit Creaseless Cream in Flatter me (with swatches)

Following my previous post (click here) about Creaseless Cream eyeshadow/liners by Benefit, I'm going to post pictures of the shade Flatter me in this post.
The exact same thing I said about Stiletto can be said about this one.
Please notice my skintone is medium and yellow. This shade may appear stronger on some other skin tones.

In seguito al mio post precedente (clicca qui) sui Creaseless Cream di Benefit, vi parlerò di

"Flatter me" in questo post.

Le stesse cose dette per Stiletto nel post linkato sopra valgono per questa tonalità.

Da notare, però, è il fatto che la mia pelle è di colore medio e con sottotono giallo.

Questo colore potrebbe, dunque, apparire più forte su altre pelli.

Review: Benefit Creaseless Cream Eyeshadow/liner in Stiletto with swatches

Packaging-wise, the Benefit Creaseless Cream eyeshadows are super cute: the box they're contained in is so vintage, and the actual product is contained in a small round jar that is made of glass. Probably a bit dodgy, if you have the habit of slipping things out of your hands, however it is definitely the best choice to store this type of product.

Per quel che riguarda il packaging, i Creaseless Cream di Benefit sono carinissimi:

la scatolina in cui sono contenuti è molto vintage e il vero e proprio prodotto è contenuto in una

piccola jar di vetro. Forse è un po' pericolosa, se si ha

l'abitudine di farsi scappare le cose di mano, ma è decisamente la miglior scelta per mantenere intatto questo tipo di prodotto.

This is the actual circumference of the jar (the whole image). I have just placed it on the screen and it's that exact size. The cute little doves there, however, are just drawn on a sticker that is cheaply placed on the lid.

Nella foto sopra vedete la vera circonferenza della jar (l'immagine intera, non solo il tappo).

L'ho appena poggiata sullo schermo ed è di quella esatta misura.

Quelle colombe carinissime, però, sono solo disegnate su un adesivo attaccato al coperchio.

Ecco, questo magari lo trovo un po' da "cineserìa" (senza offesa, si intende).

As you can see, Creaseless Creams are cream eyeshadows that, as their name suggest, will not crease on your eyes.
This is true: once they set, they are going to stay on your eye all day without creasing, and you do not need an eyeshadow primer underneath. If anything, they can be like your colored primer for powder eyeshadow.
They are generally creamy (well...they're cream eyeshadows) and soft; they apply smoothly with both fingers and brushes (best if you use a flat synthetic one and pat); and they blend easily (again, synthetic blender would be best).

Come potete vedere, i Creaseless Cream sono ombretti in crema che, come ci suggerisce

il loro nome, non faranno le pieghette sugli occhi.

E questo è vero: una volta che si asciugano, stanno lì e non si muovono, non fanno pieghette anche senza bisogno di un primer. Anzi, magari possono fare loro da base colorata per l'ombretto in polvere.

Generalmente sono cremosi (ma va?! è crema) e soffici, si applicano bene

sia con le dita che con il pennello (è meglio usare un pennello sintetico a lingua di gatto e tamponare),

e si sfumano facilmente (nuovamente, raccomando un pennello da sfumatura sintetico).

Stiletto, pictured on the right, is a shimmer (not frost, not metallic) burgundy color, a bit on the purple side.
Check this post, if you want to see how it looks on the eyes.
It is basically one of those colors that will suit pretty much anybody's eyes: on green, blue, and hazel eyes they will emphasize the color; on brown eyes, they will provide depht and warmth.
Beware, though: use an appropriate highlighter (something with a bit of golden shimmers) and good under-eye concealer, or it will make your eyes appear tired.

Praticamente, è uno di quei colori che stanno bene a tutti: sugli occhi verdi,

blu, e nocciola, enfatizzerà il colore; sugli occhi marroni conferirà profondità e un po' di "calore".

Attente, però, ad usare un illuminante appropriato (qualcosa con i riflessi dorati) e un buon correttore anti-occhiaie,

o vi farà sembrare gli occhi stanchi.

Overall, I think this is really a valuable product as its application is fast and will last throughout the day. Furthermore, it can be used as a liner (although, I think the color is too subtle for my tastes) or as a colored base, so it's multi-purpose.

The only downside is its price: I paid this 19 euros in Germany, so it is very very pricey.

In generale, penso davvero sia un prodotto di valore, visto che la sua applicazione è rapida e dura tutto il giorno.

Inoltre, può essere usato anche come eyeliner (anche se penso che, in questo modo, il colore diventi un po' troppo chiaro)

o come base colorata, quindi è un 3-in-1.

L'unica pecca è il prezzo: io l'ho pagato 19 euro in Germania, quindi è molto molto costoso.

Tip: make sure you screw the lid tight after use, as you don't want them to dry. Remember, they are cream products!

Un consiglio: assicuratevi di avvitare benissimo il tappo dopo l'uso, perché potrebbero seccarsi. Ricordatevi, sono prodotti cremosi!

New Year's Eve tutorials for last minute ideas

Dear readers and dear fellow bloggers,
I am sorry for my absence during this festive week, but I was confined in the country for 3 days and then I had some connection problems.
Other than that, I am working on something that is extermely important to me, so that explains my absence on twitter and on the blog. I will make-up for it in the new year.

So, my wish to you all (and to myself, actually) for the coming year is that everything you are working on hard, any project you have will actually come true. Anyone of you who is currently unemployed, may they find a job; any student who is working hard towards getting their education properly, may they get what they deserve for their efforts; anyone who is struggling for something, may they find a solution and solace at last. Freedom of movement, of expression, and of choice, is my ultimate wish to you all for this year.

However, I also feel like thanking you all for your support with regards to my blog in 2011, nevertheless the hard times I've been through, and the not so frequent posts. Thank you for still taking the time to read my ramblings, commenting, sharing the love, and for subscribing to anyone who's new here.

On a more frivolous note, what will you do tonight? I know the evening will start in just a few hours for some, and just in case you still don't know how to do your make-up for tonight, I will gather here all my favourite tutorials for New Year's Eve make-up ideas. Hope it will be helpful to you.

At the beginning of November, I attended an event in Milan with some other bloggers, where the lovely team from Cosmétique Active (a division of L'Orèal) showed us some great skin care products and some perfumes.
They also gave us a very generous goody bag, where I found the one product that has drastically changed my skin: Blemish + Age Defense serum by Skinceuticals.

Now, the only downside is that this product is very very expensive (when I googled it, some online stores sold this for € 78,00!), but is indeed a valuable product that you need to take into consideration. I reached half the bottle today, and as I said, I have been using 6 drops of this every morning and evening for over a month.

Ho trovato questo tag sul blog di Fanni ( Tra il filosofico e il cosmetico) e veramente non potevo esimermi dal farlo, visto che la mia attuale professione mi vede impegnata proprio nell'appassionante settore umanistico. Review and swatches : Illamasqua Pure Pigment in Zeitgeist

Ah, the lovely ladies at Illamasqua learnt to something about me very quickly: I need more time in a day.
This is probably the reason why, among all the Pure Pigments from the Theatre of the Nameless collection, they decided to send me Zeitgeist to try and review. Oh, holy Spirit of Time, help me out!

Ah, le adorabili ragazze di Illamasqua hanno imparato a conoscermi davvero rapidamente:

ho bisogno di avere giornate più lunghe.

Forse è per questo motivo che, tra tutti i Pure Pigments della collezione Theatre of the Nameless, hanno deciso di inviarmi proprio quello chiamato Zeitgeist.

Oh, sacro Spirito del Tempo, aiutami tu!

Zeitgeist is a black shimmer loose pigment.
Intense, shimmery but not metallic, this product has the most gorgeous sparkles I've ever seen in a black. And I am not even a huge fan of black eyeshadows.
The color pay-off of this pigment is pretty good when dry, but it becomes outstanding when you apply it wet.
This is definitely the black eyeshadow you want to use when you go out at night, or if you want to play with your make-up for more artistic works.
The price is £ 15,50 but you get a whole lot of product that you will hardly ever finish unless you use it everyday or you're a professional make-up artist.

Zeitgeist è un pigmento libero di colore nero, finish shimmery.

Intenso, shimmery, ma non dal finish metallico, questo prodotto ha un luccichìo meraviglioso. Il più bello che abbia mai visto in un pigmento nero. Ed io non sono nemmeno una grande fan dell'ombretto nero.

La scrivenza di questo pigmento è già buona quando è asciutto, ma diventa sensazionale con l'applicazione bagnata.

E' decisamente il tipo di nero da usare quando si esce la notte or quando ci si vuole divertire un po' a fare dei

lavori un po' più artistici.

Il prezzo è di £ 15,50, ma c'è così tanto prodotto che difficilmente si potrà finire

a meno che non lo usiate tutti i giorni o siate make-up artist professionisti.

Ambition is the second of the two Shimmer Powder Blushers Illamasqua launched for their autumnal collection.
Definitely more toned down and neutral than Morale (for a full review and swatches, click here), Ambition is kind of a peachy, rose gold blusher with lots of golden shimmers that will suit all skin tones.

The shimmers are evident, although they do not tend to enlarge pores.
This blusher is definitely suitable for day and night, for every type of make-up - from neutrals to smoky eyes, and will complement any complexion.

Gli shimmer sono evidenti, anche se non tendono ad allargare i pori.

Questo blusher è decisamente adatto per il trucco da giorno e quello da notte, per i colori neutri o per gli smoky, e sicuramente andrà benissimo per ogni incarnato.

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Morale: review and swatches

Morale is one of the Illamasqua new (well, not so new anymore, but let's say latest addition to the family) Shimmer Powder Blushers, launched with the Theatre of the Nameless A/W 11 collection.
Now, I have to warn you: my blusher has crashed into small little pieces, but that does not change its color in the pictures you are about to see. Although, I'll admit it does alter a little in the product grace and presentation, so you'll have to excuse me.

Morale è uno dei nuovi (relativamente ormai, diciamo l'ultimo arrivato in famiglia) Shimmer Powder Blushers,

uscito nella collezione A/I 2011 Theatre of the Nameless dell'ormai celebre marchio britannico Illamasqua.

Ora, vi avviso che il mio blush si è spaccato in mille pezzi, ma questo non intacca il suo colore nelle foto che

state per vedere.

Tuttavia, ammetto che alteri un po' la grazia e la presentazione del prodotto, per questo

dovrete scusarmi.

Texture-wise, Morale is definitely softer than its companion (Ambition, whose review and swatches are coming soon). Still, you will have to bear in mind that it contains some shimmers, so it will not be creamy to the touch. Don't be surprised or disappointed if, swatching it, you will have the impression it contains chunks. It does not - they're shimmers, not glitters. However, the only way to really see the real effect of this blusher is putting it on with a brush.
I use a natural bristles one by Madina Milano and I think the natural bristles are able to get the best out of this powder.

In quanto a consistenza, Morale è decisamente più setoso del suo compagno (Ambition - di cui è in arrivo la recensione con gli swatches). Nonostante ciò, bisogna tenere a mente che

contiene degli shimmer, perciò non sarà cremoso al tatto.

Non sorprendetevi o irritatevi se, swatchandolo, avrete l'impressione che contenga come dei pezzetti.

Non è così - sono degli shimmer, non dei glitter. Comunque, l'unico modo per vedere l'effetto reale di

questo blush è quello di provarlo con un pennello.

Io ne uso uno in setole naturali di Madina Milano e penso che questo tipo di

setole siano le migliori per catturare il meglio di questo prodotto.

Color pay-off is buildable: while Morale is a very bright color, you can also obtain just a very cute natural flush of color by putting just a teeny-tiny on. It will give you a doll effect, making you look healthy and glowy (the little shimmers will highlight your upper cheekbones, so there you have 2 products in 1).
Play with layers, applying it very very lightly at the beginning, and this blusher will be definitely suitable for both day and night.

La scrivenza è modulabile: nonostante Morale sia un colore molto vivo, si può ottenere anche solo

un effetto di "rossore naturale", mettendone una quantità veramente minima.

In questo modo dona un effetto bambolina, dando all'incarnato una parvenza sana e luminosa (i piccoli shimmer illumineranno la parte superiore dell'osso zigomatico, quindi è come avere 2 prodotti in 1).

Giocate un po' con gli strati, applicando solo una leggerissima pennellata all'inizio, e questo blush

sarà decisamente adatto sia per uso giornaliero che per un trucco da sera.

Packaging is the usual black, sleek Illamasqua one, which reminds me of nautical objects and mystery (how do the two connect, I have no idea). Something that every woman will be stare at, if you take it out of your purse for touch ups.
However, it does not contain a mirror inside, so be aware of that.

La confezione è la solita di Illamasqua, nera ed elegante che mi ricorda la nautica ed il mistero (e non cheidetemi come le due cose possano essere interconnesse, perché non ne ho idea).E' un qualcosa che

tutte le donne fisseranno, se doveste toglierla dalla borsa per qualche ritocco.

Tuttavia, non contiene uno specchietto al suo interno, dunque portatene uno con voi.

My Halloween Make-up

Here is my contribution for this Halloween (the first I've ever celebrated!): I just put on some black clothes, feathers, and I had a "sexy zombie" makeover.
These pictures have been taken at 5 am, when I came back from a night spent at a pub and in a club, so my make-up wasn't fresh.
For my wounds, I used some toilet paper and DUO glue. After it all dried, I painted on them. :)

Haul: Catrice (with mini review)

It took me a while to finally make up my mind and try some pieces from this German low-cost brand that is expanding rapidly on the cosmetic market.

Bigger sister of Essence, Catrice is dedicated to a more "grown up" target of customers, with its better quality and slightly sleeker packaging.

Mi ci è voluto un po' per decidermi finalmente a

provare qualche prodotto del marchio economico tedesco che si sta

rapidamente espandendo nel mercato della cosmesi.

Sorella maggiore di Essence, Catrice è una marca dedicata ad un

pubblico più "adulto", con una qualità decisamente migliore e

confezioni un po' più eleganti.

Ecco cos'ho deciso di provare:

Here is what I tried:

1. Perfect Resist Make-up

They call it a natural and fresh foundation, however I would say this is more on the dewy side.

Coverage is medium, it feels light on the skin and lasts a decent amount of hours. It's not cakey, but not even all that natural, due to the dewiness. Still, it was a very nice surprise for a cheap foundation.

My skin does not usually tollerates drugstore face products, however, this was fairly good.

The downside: the color range is lowermost. There are only four color choices of this foundation, and the darkest one (040) - which at that time was the closest match to my tan-to-winter skintone - is a tad too on the orangy-brownish side.

Lo chiamano il fondotinta dall'effetto naturale e fresco, però io direi che è più sul versante

luminoso.

Copertura media, è abbastanza leggero sulla pelle ed ha una durata decente.

Non fa l'effetto patacca, ma non è nemmeno naturale, datosi appunto la forte luminosità.

Nonostante tutto è davvero stata una piacevole sorpresa per essere un fondotinta economico.

La mia pelle, infatti, solitamente non tollera i prodotti viso low-cost, ma questo è davvero valido.

La pecca è la gamma di colori veramente infima.

Ci sono solo 4 possibilità di scelta ed il colore più scuro (040), che al tempo in cui ho acquistato il prodotto era

quello che andava meglio per me, è un po' troppo sul versante arancione-marroncino.

2. Lashes to Kill mascara

Claims to lenghten, volumize, curl like no other.

Untrue.

Now, while it does a decent job in all of the three aspects, it isn't the best cheap mascara I've tried. KIKO Luxurious Lashes is way better.

Better than some, but still not amazing to me. I won't buy this again.

Dice di allungare, volumizzare, incurvare come nessun altro.

Falso.

Ora, nonostante sia abbastanza decente sotto tutti e tre gli aspetti, ci sono

altri mascara economici che fanno decisamente di meglio, come il Luxurious Lashes di KIKO.

Meglio di alcuni mascara, ma non mi ha comunque colpita.

Non lo ricomprerei.

3. Mono eyeshadows
These were surprising: great pigmentation for such a cheap product (I believe they are under 3 or 4 euros each), vast color range, different textures, and some are very close dupes for MAC eyeshadows!
A definite must-try/must-have!

Questa è stata la vera sorpresa: pigmentazione ottima per degli ombretti così

economici (credo che siano sotto i 3 o 4 euro l'uno),

gamma di colori vasta, texture diverse, e alcuni sono dei dupe abbastanza simili a famosi ombretti

della MAC.

Decisamente da provare/avere!

4. Colour Adapt Concealer
Just one of those brush-on concealers for under the eye area, that tends to illuminate.
Coverage is poor, and lasting performance also is.
I do not recommend this.

Semplicemnte uno di quei correttori per occhiaie con pennello e meccanismo

automatico. L'effetto dovrebbe essere quello

illuminante. La copertura è bassa, così come la performance della durata.

Non lo raccomando.

5. Gel eyeliner (not pictured)

Consistency is almost mousse-like, blends easily if you want to use it smudged, or glides on very well if you want a defined line.

Deep colour pigmentation. Sets and does not budge all day.

Great product!

Consistenza simile ad una mousse, si sfuma benissimo

se lo volete portare un po' ad effetto smoky,

e comunque si stende benissimo anche se volete una riga ben definita.

Pigmentazione ottima, si fissa e non si muove tutto il giorno.

Ottimo prodotto!

In conclusion, I would suggest you take your time to visit their stands and swatch around here and there, because there are some true gems from this brand and for the lowest price you can get.

I will buy some more products from Catrice in the future.

Everything was priced between 2,50 and 6 euros, so it's a bargain.

Review: Clinique Chubby Stick

Last February, Clinique launched the latest addition to the "lip products family": Chubby Stick.

Chubby Sticks are simply lip balms in the form of a jumbo crayon (automatic, so no need for oversized, hard to find pencil sharpeners).
What makes them stand out from the rest is that they are every ~~lazy~~ busy girl's key product: lip balms, tinted, sheer&glossy, good staying power. An all-in-one product.

Lo scorso febbraio Clinique ha lanciato sul mercato un prodotto che si è andato ad

aggiungere alla "famiglia dei prodotti per labbra": il Chubby Stick.

I Chubby Stick sono semplicemente dei balsami per labbra (stessa funzione del burro di cacao, ma composizione differente) dalla forma simile a quella di un pastellone (automatico, però, così da evitare l'affannosa e dispendiosa ricerca di un temperamatite di quella misura).

Ciò che rende questi Chubby Stick speciali è il loro essere il "prodotto jolly" di ogni ragazza ~~pigra~~ impegnata:

sono balsami labbra, sono colorati,

semi trasparenti e leggermente lucidi, con una

buona durata. Tante funzioni in un unico prodotto.

Now, you don't get much product in one stick, it's only 3 grams, but it's enough to last at least 3 months of constant application (at least, in my experience).
The downside: price is placed at 17 euros.
The upside: every similar product has the same price, but comes in a pot, which makes it unconvenient for re-applications throught the day and precision.

Ora, il prodotto non è tanto, sono soltanto 3 grammi in uno stick,

ma è abbastanza da durare almeno tre mesi di applicazioni costanti (almeno, secondo la mia esperienza).

La pecca: il prezzo è di 17 euro.

Il pregio: tutti i prodotti simili hanno lo stesso prezzo, ma sono contenuti in una scomoda jar, il che

li rende abbastanza scomodi da portare in giro e riapplicare con igiene e precisione.

In conclusion, your choice: you're buying a product from Clinique, so you know it's high-end; the product is indeed good (it has deserved a repurchase from me!) and convenient, but it comes with a price tag of €17.
Personally, I recommend it nevertheless!

In conclusione, si tratta di una scelta personale: quel che vi posso dire è che state comprando

un prodotto di Clinique, perciò sapete in partenza che il prezzo sarà alto; il prodotto è decisamente

buono (tanto da meritarsi di essere riacqustato) e pratico, ma ha un prezzo di €17.

Personalmente, io lo raccomando comunque!

Currently, our government is discussing (for the umpteenth time, and with a strong possibility to pass it) the "DDL Intercettazioni" - the Wiretapping Bill. Its 29th paragraph would

empower anyone who believes themselves to have been offended by the content of a web site to enforce publication of a reply, uneditable and uncommented, on the same web site, within 48 hours and without any prior evaluation of the claim by a judge or to face a €12,000 fine. Some see it as an attempt by government to censor bloggers

This Bill has been sarcastically called the "Gag Law" because it will basically put a gag on our freedom of speech, thought, and expression, and also on our democracy. That's what the banner says: "No to the Gag Law".

Luckly for me this blog of mine has contents that will not be of interest for this Bill, but I do have a slightly more "political" blog about life in Italy (it's in Italian), and that can be closed, or I even worse I can risk my entire yearly salary for expressing my sarcastic opinion on some of our Prime Minister's acts.

How do you find the packaging (I love the little snail!)?

Pennelli da sfumatura: tipi, funzionalità, marchi che li producono

[una rapida premessa: ancora non hanno attivato l'adsl nella mia nuova casa, perciò la regolarità dei post riprenderà non appena avrò una connessione decente.]

Questo articolo mi è stato ispirato da una conversazione avuta qualche giorno fa con una mia amica (se mi leggi, ciao Ele!). Infastidita dal fatto di non riuscire a fare uno smoky eye da manuale, la mia amica mi ha chiesto dove poter trovare dei veri e propri pennelli da sfumatura, quelli che inglese (lo dico per onor di cronaca, visto che i siti in cui si possono trovare son tutti in inglese) si chiamano blending brushes.

Ora, con tutti i video che girano su youtube e le cosiddette guru, penso che ormai sapremo tutte cosa sono i pennelli da sfumatura (è intuibile anche dal nome) e che i due più efficaci sono il MAC 217 ed il MAC 224.Questi due pennellli hanno propositi diversi, nonostante lo scopo ultimo di entrambi sia quello di dare una sfumatura al nostro trucco. Entrambi hanno una forma "a campana" (o "a goccia", se vogliamo), ma uno dei due è più grande ed ha una circonferenza circolare (il 224), mentre l'altro è più piccolo e piatto (ha una circonferenza più...ovale, il 217). Inoltre, i pennelli tipo il 217 sono un tantino più "rigidi".

Che tipo di sfumatura da il 217?
Una sfumatura perfetta, graduale, ma ben visibile sulla piega palpebrale. E' utile anche in mancanza di altri pennelli per stendere semplicemente l'ombretto su tutta la palpebra. Insomma, è il tipo di pennello che si deve utilizzare quando si vuole che il colore da sfumare sia bello evidente.

Che tipo di sfumatura da il 224?
Una sfumatura che dissolve il colore dalla piega palpebrale fino all'arcata sopraccigliare. Questo tipo di pennello non è fatto per caricare il colore da sfumare. Invece, sarà molto utile per sfumare veramente molto il colore che steso sulla piega palpebrale.
E' anche un buon pennello da correttore (anche data la natura delle sue setole), ma questa è tutt'altra storia.

Ora, siccome so bene che non tutti possono permettersi i pennelli MAC (io sono la prima, visto che se prima non potevo permettermeli per motivi finanziari, ora non potrei comunque comprarli per l'assenza di MAC nella mia regione), quello che mi propongo di fare con questo post è darvi una lista di aziende che producono questo tipo di pennelli, in una versione meno costosa.

La prima su tutte è sicuramente la Sigma, un'azienda statunitense di cui sono ambasciatrice (faccio parte del loro affiliate program*). Sigma ha le migliori occasioni a livello globale per quanto riguarda il rapporto qualità/prezzo.
Il loro simil-224 si chiama E40 (Tapered Blending) e costa $9,00 se comprato individualmente (anche se io suggerisco sempre i kit, perché si risparmia sempre sul costo dei pennelli, che tanto servono sempre tutti).
Il loro simil-217 si chiama E25 ed anche questo ha un costo di $9,00 (se poi acquistate un kit, di solito questo pennello, in versione mini è omaggio!)
Questi due rappresentano la riproduzione più fedele dei pennelli MAC.

Anche questa è una ditta statunitense, che si è specializzata in pennelli anti-batterici (di cui ho fatto la recensione qui).
Il loro simil 217 si chiama 776, mentre la replica del 224 si chiama 785.
Sono dei buonissimi pennelli!

Ci sono, poi, dei marchi che producono dei pennelli simili a quelli MAC, ma che non ho ancora provato. Non posso fare commenti sulla qualità di questi, ma posso sempre segnalarveli per onor di cronaca:
Cozzette (disponibile su Love Make Up) produce una replica del 224 che ha chiamato S150;
Crown Brushes ha svariate riproduzioni di questo tipo di pennelli nelle loro numerose linee. Cambia sicuramente la qualità e la composizione delle setole. Occorre sfogliare un po' il catalogo, perché queste forme sono reiterate, dipende da quanto volete spender voi.

Anche Boots N 7 produce una mini replica del 217. E' abbastanza decente (io ne possiedo due), soprattutto se si deve portare in viaggio, ma sicuramente non ha la stessa qualità dei quelli Sigma o Bdellium. E' molto morbido, però.

Mi spiace ragazze, ma Real Techniques by Sam Chapman non produce questa tipologia di pennelli.
E' inutile dire che ogni altra forma di pennello da sfumatura non da affatto lo stesso tipo di sfumatura di questi pennelli, perciò non aspettatevi grandi cose da un pennello tipo quello elf (nonostante sia comunque un buon pennello).

An insight into blending brushes: types, functionality, brands

[warning: I am trying to type this while I am still mooching off of a nearby internet connection. I have no idea if, by the time I will have finished typing this, I will still be able to post it. They told me today, my own connection will be sorted withing 20 - 30 days]

I had an inspiring conversation with my friend two days ago about brushes. She told me she couldn't get the hang of smoky eyes, and while I think that is mostly due to her (our!) eye shape, I agree with her that the right blending brushes would help a lot!

Now, with all the beauty "gurus" around youtube, I think we all know what a blending eye brush is, and that the two most effective ones are the MAC 217 and MAC 224.
Of course, the two serve different purposes even if their mission is to give a good blend. Both are domed-shaped brushes, but one is bigger and circular in circumference (224) and the other one is smaller and flatter (more like an oval-type of circumference, the 217). Also, 217-type of brushes are stiffer than 224's.

What can you do with a 217?
Get a perfect, gradual, but visible blend on the crease. Also, you can use the flat side of it to pack on some eyeshadow on the eyelid. This is the type of brush you want to use to pack on the color that you need to blend.

What can you do with a 224?
Just blend. Dissolve the color from the crease right up to the brow bone. This brush is not meant to pat on the color and blend it. On the other hand, it will help you very much when you want the colour that you previously put on the crease to fade into the brown bone.
It is also a good concealer brush (given the nature of its bristles and its size), but that's another story.

Now, I understand that not everyone - for many reasons - can get hold of MAC brushes (I myself, could not afford them until this year, and now I can't get them because I don't have a MAC store near me) so my aim with this post will be to provide you with a list of good dupes for them, since not many companies produce their blending eye brushes in these two shapes.

First on the list is Sigma brushes, a US-based company I am ambassador of. They have the best quality/price deals worldwide, and they were my first real brushes ever.
Their dupe for the MAC 224 is called E40 (Tapared Blending) and costs $ 9,00 if bought individually (I personally recommend kits where this brush can be found, because kits are always the best deals).
Their dupe for the MAC 217 is called E25 and also costs $ 9,00 (when you buy a kit, most of the time this brush, in its travel size, comes for free!)
These two are the most similar and faithful replicas I've ever come across.

Another brand I tried that makes very good dupes is Bdellium. This is another US-based manufacturer that specializes into anti-bacterial brushes (I reviewed their brushes here).
Their replica for the 217 is called 776, while their dupe for the 224 brush is called 785.
These are very good brushes too!

Some brands I have not tried yet produce their own replicas, and while I cannot comment on their quality, I can always point out to you the brushes:
Cozzette (available throught Love Make Up) makes an S150 (224) brush.
Crown Brushes also makes several dupes in their lines. The brushes are the same shape, but the bristles composition might change.

Boots N7 also makes a travel size replica of the MAC 217. It is a decent brush, but cannot surely equal the Sigma or Bdellium brushes.

Sorry girls, but Real Techniques by Sam Chapman does not produce these shapes.

Any other blending brush that is shapped differently (eg. elf) will not have the same blending.

Ellis Faas: a family affair

Some days ago, I received a lovely email advising me of a new video on the Ellis Faas youtube channel.
The video, called A Family Affair, displays Ellis's brother's - Thijs - face being used as a canvas for what I would call make-up paintings. In fact, Ellis was inspired by a triptych painted by Francis Bacon (who, for the record, is one of my all time favorite painters), so keep that in mind when you watch the short film.

Ellis herselfs asserts that

As a late teenager, I visited the Tate Gallery in London and was blown away by a Francis Bacon triptych. It made a great impression on me because of the use of colour - it was unnerving and stunningly beautiful at the same time. Bacon inspired many experiments I did over the years. I now think it has become something of my own and hasn't much to do with Bacon any more

For some reasons, some of the shots remind me of Joan Mirò and Jackson Pollock too. Can you see what I see there?
Anyway, the video is mesmerizing (she shot that herself, in her own house) and it is accompanied by some touching piano melody her own daughter Flavia composed especially for the occasion.

I hope you will enjoy it as much as I did. If you are fond of paint and art in general, I know you will.

Review: Clarins Eclat du Jour

I purchased this moisturizer by Clarins in May after hearing so many people rave about it.
Well, I guess all those raves were right. Eclat du Jour is now my favorite moisturizer ever!
Yes, it's true that it is very expensive (20€ for a 30 ml jar) but it leaves your skin looking gorgeous. It is supposed to be a line for younger skins, but it works perfectly with my skin needs.

Ho acquistato questa crema di Clarins a Maggio, dopo aver sentito tantissime persone tesserne le lodi.

Beh, penso proprio che tutte quelle lodi fossero meritate. Eclat du Jour è ora la mia crema preferita!

Sì, è vero ch'è molto cara (20 € per 30 ml), ma mi lascia la pelle fantastica.

Dovrebbe essere una linea dedicata alle pelli giovani, ma per le necessità che ha la mia pelle va benissimo.

I bought the "dry to normal" version, which has a thicker consistency (the "combination" Eclat du Jour comes in a gel - gélée - formulation). Nevertheless, it left my skin supple, luminous, refined, and cleared out some imperfections. It has never left my skin greasy, even when our temperature here reached 30 degrees (Celsius, that is).

Complexion Perfection Review: Clarins Skin Illusion foundation (fondotinta)

Back in the spring, Clarins launched a new foundation called Skin Illusion.
I will skip all of the details that you can find on their site (I had already wrote an informative post when I received the press release related to it) and focus on my experience with this foundation.

Rather airy. Very light-weight, but not overly fluid, nor too dense. I really love it.

Consistenza

Molto leggera, non troppo fluida, né troppo densa. A me piace tantissimo.

Yes, I am so lazy that I always forget to put my hand cream on. I have very dry skin on my body!

Coverage
I'd say this foundation has a medium coverage. If you have spots, you will need to dab a little over them to disguise them completely, but in general, it does a very good job hiding everything, pores included!

Coprenza

Direi che la coprenza di questo fondotinta è media. Se avete brufoli, dovrete picchiettarne un pochino sopra per mascherarli per bene, ma in generale è davvero un buon fondotinta per nascondere le imperfezioni,

pori compresi!

How its texture results on the skin
I have to say, I love it. It gives a satin finish, so you get a luminosity without being shiny, and it mattifies just enough not have your t-zone become greasy. Definitely a gorgous effect on the skin.
I have also been told it looks very very natural, almost as if I weren't wearing any foundation and it was just my skin that looked flawless.
So for 32 - 34 € a bottle, this is definitely something worth the splurge.

Another fashion haul: Pimkie

Ever since Pimkie opened in the town where I work (and soon live too), I've been a regular client.
Their clothes have decent prices and decent quality (actually, some of them are really good for the price. However some others, you wonder why they cost so much), they have a modern French vibe to them....All pro's in my books.

Yesterday, I was in Sassari bringing some stuff and ordering my new closet, so I thought I'd stop by a Pimkie store, and here is what I bought.
I apologize for the internet-taken pictures, but I left everything in my new house:

Floral dress with belt - nice for the fall too, with a long cardigan, colored thighs and a big scarf

A very simple "country" shirt to wear with jeans.

Sequinned tank top - this is very very fancy and lovely for nights out too.

Pleats skirt with belt. It's even cuter than in the picture. Such a college girl vibe to it!

Just a plain beige shirt that goes with everything really. I liked the ruffled sleeves.

Long stripes sweater, which matched to my black studded leggings and boots makes a great "rock chick" outfit

Glossybox sbarca in Italia

Glossybox, il servizio già famoso in molti Paesi d'Europa (ed ovviamente già consolidato in USA e Canada) che permette di ricevere a casa ogni mese una deliziosa scatola contenente campioni di cosmetici di lusso, sbarca finalmente anche in Italia.

Il sito, www.glossybox.it, è attualmente in fase di costruzione, ma è già possibile registrare la propria mail per sapere quando ci si potrà iscrivere.
Solitamente il funzionamento è questo: ci si registra e si crea un profilo in cui vengono inseriti i dati riguardanti la tipologia di pelle, la tipologia del capello, i colori, in modo che si possano avere i campioni più adatti alle proprie esigenze.
Non so quali tariffe verranno applicate in Italia, ma so per certo che in Francia il servizio ha un costo di 13 euro mensili (scatola con campioni e spedizione inclusa).

Bobbi Brown Haul

I got this beauty, namely the Bobbi Brown Denim & Rose palette through ebay the other day.
I've been lusting over this ever since it was out and I saw it at Brown Thomas in Dublin. Now it's finally mine.
Colors aren't exactly accurate in these pictures because you can't see the wonderful eyeshadows on the right in their full glory, but if you want me to review this and take accurate swatches photos, please, feel free to comment.

It was a limited edition palette, but you can still find it on ebay for half the price. Quite barganeous. I'm in love, already!

Review: Benefit Realness of Concealness "mini fake-it" kit ( Ooh La Lift, Lip Plump, High Beam, Lemon Aid, Boi-ing)

Don't you just love Benefit kits? Sure, they are expensive, but no one else can beat the cute, vintage packaging, and the selection of products they put in them.
They are fantastic for those who want to try their products for the first time, but do not want to take the risk and spend 30 euros on one single product they are not sure they will like. Paying 30 euros to try five or more products is certainly more appealing. Especially when those five small little "sample-sized" products last you one entire year (or even more, I guess...).

Non adorate anche voi i kit di Benefit? Certo, sono un po' cari,

ma sono imbattibili. Quel packaging così carino, vintage, e la selezione di prodotti che si trova al loro interno....

Sono fantastici per coloro che vogliono provare i loro prodotti per la prima volta, ma

non vogliono rischiari di spendere 30 euro per un solo prodotto che non sono sicuri nemmeno gli piaccia.

Pagare 30 euro per cinque prodotti è di certo meglio. Specialmente se quei cinque prodotti in taglia mini

ti durano la bellezza di un anno intero (o forse, anche di più...).

Ooh La Lift (full size: £ 16,50 - should be - but Benefit doesn't have an Italian website - around € 18):
An under eye circles brightener. It's a very light, cool pink light cream that you dab under your eyes. It contains raspberry extracts and light-reflecting pigments that will counteract your dark circles.
My verdict: it does help a bit, but it is nothing special. If you have super dark circles, this may not help at all. I still prefer concealers.

E' un illuminante per la zona occhi. Il colore è un rosa freddo molto chiaro, la consistenza quella di una crema

che si picchietta nel contorno occhi. Contiene estratti di lampone e pigmenti che riflettono la luce che aiutano a combattere le occhiaie.

Il mio verdetto: aiuta un pochino, ma non è nulla di speciale. Se avete delle super occhiaie, sicuramente non farà niente. Preferisco di gran lunga i correttori.

Lip Plump (full size: £ 14,50 - should be around € 16 or more):
A lip primer "for full, sexy lips". It's colored as a concealer and helps evening out the surface of the lips so that your lipstick glides on smothly. It also helps to "erase your lips" so that you can trace them differently with your lip liner, and makes your lipstick last longer.
Definitely a useful product, especially for those who - like me - don't have a natural defined pout, but want to sport brighter colors on their lips.

Un primer per labbra "piene e sexy". E' colorato come un correttore ed aiuta a livellare la superficie delle labbra cosicché il rossetto scivoli meglio.

L'altra sua funzione è quella di "cancellare" le labbra, in modo che si possano

tracciare contorni diversi da quelli naturali con la matita, ed aiuta anche a far durare più a lungo il rossetto.

Decisamente un prodotto utile, specialmente per chi - come me - non ha una bocca ben definita ma vuole

portare i colori accesi.

High Beam (full size: £ 18, 50 - € 23):
Known as the "supermodel in a bottle", High Beam needs no presentation. Next to the infamous Moon Beam, it's the highlighter. On the pink side, shimmery, and creamy, you only need to dab and blend a very tiny amount of this product where you want lights to be reflecting (usually, top of the cheeks, cupid's bow, bridge of the nose, brow bone) and you will have the most subtle yet effective glow on your skin.
Bear in mind though, that this happens when you put the tiniest amount of it on. As it is shimmery, if you put too much of it on, you will end up looking like a discoball.
My verdict: lovely product, especially if you like creamy formulations. Although, I would only buy this in kits, as there are some exact dupes for less (for the full size bottle, I mean).

Conosciuto come la "top model in bottiglia", High Beam non ha bisogno di presentazioni.

Insieme a Moon Beam, è l'illuminante per eccellenza.

Sui toni del rosa, shimmery e cremoso, è necessaria una quantità veramente minuscola di questo prodotto

nei punti in cui si vuole che la luce rifletta (di solito, sull'osso zigomatico, sull'arco di cupido, lungo il naso e

nell'arcata sopraccigliare) e avrete una luminosità discreta, ma anche molto efficace.

Tenete bene a mente, però che questo accade solo quando usate una quantità di prodotto veramente minima.

Dato che è molto shimmery, se viene messo troppo prodotto, si rischia l'effetto "stroboscopio".

Il mio verdetto: prodotto adorabile, specialmente se si è fan delle formulazioni cremose.

Tuttavia, lo comprerei solo nei kit, perché in giro ci sono dei dupe che costano meno (certo, il prezzo in Italia è davvero poco accattivante!)

Lemon Aid (full size £ 16,50 - should be around 18 or 20 euros):
Marketed as a color correcting eyelid primer, this is a product that I can't get the hang of. Basically, it's a lemon yellow cream helps to hide redness and discoloration on your eyelids. Problems are, though, that a. the cream isn't soft; b. it creases ridiculously. Ok, this is not a primer that's supposed to make your eyeshadow last or avoid creasing (in fact, it can be worn alone), but still. You would expect something that you put on your eyes to correct the color not to crease and stay there, otherwise you'd end up in stripes of different colors on your lids, right?
Nope, this is the one product that let me down.

Pubblicizzato come il primer correttore per occhi, questo è un prodotto che non riesco proprio ad utilizzare.

Praticamente, è una crema giallo limone che aiuta a nascondere il rossore o la discromia delle palpebre.

I problemi però sono i seguenti: a. la crema non è soffice; b. fa immediatamente le pieghette.

Ok non è un primer il cui scopo è quello di non far fare le pieghette all'ombretto

o farlo durare di più (infatti, si può anche portare senza ombretto), ma ad ogni modo ci si aspeetterebbe

che durasse proprio visto che corregge le discromie e non ci vogliamo di certo ritrovare con

strisce di colori diversi sulle palpebre.

No, è proprio un prodotto che mi ha delusa.

Boi-ing (full size £ 16,50 - € 21, 50):
The "industrial strenght concealer". My favorite one of all time. It is the concealer. It comouflages everything from dark circles to acne spots, and even covers birth-marks pretty well. I even bought a back-up of it, but I haven't finished the mini size in the kit yet (not even hit pan) and I've used it almot every day for almost one year. Fantastic! The tiniest amount covers everything. You can even use it to erase your lips!
Yes, it's rather pricey, but it's an excellent product that will last for ages.
A tip: when using under the eyes, dab the product rather than using swipe motions. The consistency is so creamy that it would get into lines.
My verdict: love at first use!

Il correttore "industriale". Il mio preferito di sempre. Il correttore per antomasia.

Camuffa di tutto, dalle occhiaie ai brufoli dell'acne e copre anche molto bene le voglie.

Ho addirittura comprato una riserva in full size di questo correttore, ma ancora, dopo un anno, non ho

finito (nemmeno ho iniziato a fare il classico "buchetto") la mini taglia contenuta nel kit

e l'ho usato praticamente ogni giorno per quasi un anno. Fantastico, no?!

Anche una minuscola quantità di prodotto copre tutto. Lo si può perfino usare per "cancellare" le labbra!

Sì. è vero, costa tanto, ma è un prodotto eccellente che durerà un'eternità.

Un consiglio: picchiettatelo invece di tirarlo. la consistenza è molto cremosa e se non fate così nel contorno occhi,

rischiate che vi vada nelle pieghette.

Il verdetto: amore a prima applicazione!

Overall considerations:
The kit is definitely worth a try. It retails for € 33 which you would think are too much, but you get the chance of trying five products, and some of them are real gems. Also, despite the tiny dimensions, it will last for ages.

Considerazioni generali:

Vale decisamente la pena di provare questo kit. Per 33 euro, che sembrano inzialmente troppe, avete l'opportunità

di provaare cinque prodotti, e alcuni di questi sono davvero delle chicche.

In più, a dispetto delle dimensioni che sembrano davvero minuscole, durerà per secoli.

I apologize for the lack of FOTD posts lately, but ever since I moved to another house I don't have the right space and the right lighting to take such pictures.
Hopefully, the situation will change in September, when I move out again, and I will be living in a nice apartment on the 5th floor (right opposite my work place) where I get a lot of light during the day time.
In the meantime, enjoy the look I sported last night, while I was at a rock concert with a couple of friends and my brother.
I opted for a greyish green smoky eye, with some speckles of blue. Such an unusual color that only Urban Decay produces (as far as I know): Misdemeanor. Now, pictures do not do it justice, but I promise I will replicate this when I move to my new place and I can take a decent shot.
It was much more smoked out and also darker.
And of course, eventhough I used one of the darkest shades of foundation around, SPF + Flash washed out my face. Enjoy the difference in shade between my visage and my neck...

Bellapierre Make-up brushes review

So this is round two of my reviews on the mineral make-up specialized brand called Bellapierre.

This time, I will be reviewing all the brushes that Bellapierre has generously sent to me.

Questa è la seconda parte delle recensioni dei prodotti ricevuti da una casa cosmetica specializzata in make-up minerale, la Bellapierre.

Stavolta recensirò tutti i pennelli che la Bellapierre mi ha generosamente spedito.

1. Blush Brush
This is the Bellapierre angled face brush, which can be used for both blush and countouring. It is made of 100% goat hairs, and my preferred usage for this brush is definitely the application of bronzer. It's not a huge brush, it has - let's say - a medium size, so it's useful for application of bronzer or countouring powders on the temples.
Softness-wise, it's not the softest brush on Earth, but it is soft enough not to scratch your face and to give a good blend.
The handle is not very big, so it's very handy for a purse where you put your make-up-on-the-go, or if you need travel size brushes.
Its price is € 24.99

1. Blush Brush

Questo è il pennello viso angolato di Bellapierre, che può essere usato sia per applicare il blush (arrendevolmente, ormai uso la terminologia anglofona, altrimenti mi dicono che sono rètro...oh, scusate, vintage)

che per scolpire il viso con il contouring. Le setole sono in 100% pelo di capra e l'uso che ne faccio io, quello che preferisco, è sicuramente applicazione del bronzer. Non è un pennello enorme, diciamo che ha una misura media, quindi è abbastanza utile per l'applicazione del bronzer o polveri da countouring sulle tempie.

Per ciò che attiene alla morbidezza, non è il pennello più soffice sulla terra, ma è comunque abbstanza

soffice da non pizzicare tutta la faccia e da anche una buona sfumatura.

Il manico non è molto grande, quindi è un pennello pratico da tenere in borsa, oppure se avete bisogno di un pennello da viaggio.

2. Concealer brush
This is a very thick brush which should be used for applying loose mineral foundation or concealer under the eye area, or on problem areas. Personally, I've used it for packing some eyeshadow too, sometimes.
Although, I am so used to other types of brushes that I hardly ever reach for it. I should give it more rounds, but it's generally a good brush.
It's made of 100% pony hairs, and its retail price is € 19.99

2. Concealer Brush

E' un pennello molto spesso, che dovrebbe trovare il suo utilizzo nell'applicazione di polveri minerali libere o

correttore nell'area del contorno occhi o in qualsiasi zona "problematica". Personalmente, l'ho usato anche

per l'ombretto, alcune volte.

Anche se, devo ammettere, sono abituata ad altri tipi di pennello e dunque questo non lo uso quasi mai.

Lo dovrei mettere alla prova più spesso, ma in generale è un buon pennello.

Le setole son di pelo di pony e il suo prezzo è di € 19.99

3. Fan Brush
A small fan shaped brush that should be used to apply bronzers or shimmer powders (highlighters in general).
Now, I've never really gotten the hang of fan brushes (and everytime I try to use one to remove excess of make-up from under my eyes, I end up looking like a racoon), but I've used this several times when doing my evening make-up (therefore, more sculpted) for powder highlighter application and it works very nicely.
I guess this can also be a very good brush for contouring, if you can master the art of using it. My best guess is that you can put your contour powder with this in the exact hollows of your cheeks and then you can buff it out with a bigger contour blush. I may give this technique a try.
This brush is made of 100% goat hair and its retail price is once again € 19.99

3. Fan Brush

E' il classico pennello a ventaglio che dovrebbe usarsi per applicare bronzer e polveri illuminanti.

Ora, io personalmente non ho mai capito come utilizzare bene questo tipo di pennello (ed ogni volta che, ad esempio, provo ad usarlo per rimuovere l'eccesso di trucco da sotto gli occhi, finisco per sembrare un panda), ma l'ho usato parecchie volte per fare il trucco da sera (quindi più scolpito)

per applicare polveri illuminanti e funziona davvero bene.

Penso che sia un buon pennello anche per il contouring, se avete abbastanza maestrìa nell'usarlo.

Credo proprio che si possa mettere la polvere da contouring con questo pennello esattamente al di sotto dell'osso zigomatico e poi si possa sfumare per bene con un pennello da contouring più grosso. Dovrei provarla, questa tecnica.

4. Powder Dome Brush
This is the brush that Bellapierre suggests you use for foundation application. It's not one of those huge powder brushes, so it can work. Although, I have to say that the foundation applies extremely lightly when you use this brush, therefore, if you want more coverage, you should use a kabuki with loose powder foundation, or the included sponge with the compact one. This brush, in my opinion, is better for finishing powder application, or for blush application. In fact, I always use it as a blush brush and I love it.
It is very soft, with its bristles made of goat hair, and retails for € 29.99

4. Powder Dome Brush

Questo è il pennello che Bellapierre suggerisce di usare per l'applicazione del fondotinta. Non è uno di quei pennelli polvere enormi, quindi può funzionare in questo senso. Anche se, devo dire che il fondotinta si stende veramente molto leggermente se si usa queto pennello, perciò, se volte più coprenza, dovrete usare un kabuki o, per la versione del fondo compatto, la spugnetta inclusa nella confezione.

Questo pennello, secondo il mio modesto parere, è meglio come pennello da cipria o blush. Infatti, io lo uso sempre come pennello bush e lo adoro.

E' molto morbido, ha le setole in pelo di capra e il suo costo è di € 29.99

5. Eyeliner Brush
Unlike the other brushes I have previously described, this one is made of Taklon. To say that I am in love with it is an understatement. It has the perfect consistency for lining the lashlines and for filling in and shaping eyebrows. The handle is not super long, but not even super short. Just the right size to bring it with your for travelling or touch-ups, and still do a great job.
It is not even that expensive, being priced at € 14.99.

5. Eyeliner Brush

A differenza di quelli che ho precedentemente descritto, questo pennello ha le setole in Taklon.

Dire che sono innamorata di questo pennello è usare un eufemismo. Ha la consistenza perfetta per tracciare righe di eyeliner e anche per dar forma e riempire le sopracciglia. Il manico non è troppo lungo,

né troppo corto. Proprio la misura giusta per portarlo dietro con sé per ritocchi e ottenere comunque un buon lavoro.

Non è nemmeno così caro, costa € 14.99

6. Eyeshadow Brush
Along with the concealer brush it's probably the one brush that I liked the least.
It's just a regular eyeshadow brush made of goat hair, it's not as big as my Sigma one, so I use it for applying eyeshadow on the lower lashline or inner corner.
I don't have much to say about it, because it is not incredibly soft or precise....
Its price is 14.99

6. Eyeshadow Brush

Insieme al pennello da correttore è probabilmente quello che mi è piaciuto meno.

E' semplicemente un normalissimo pennello da ombretto in setole di capra, non è grande come quello Sigma,

quindi lo uso per applicare l'ombretto nella rima inferiore dell'occhio e nell'angolo interno.

Non ho granché da dire su questo pennello, non è incredibilmente morbido o preciso...

Il suo prezzo è di € 14.99

Overall considerations:
The brushes have a good quality, although I can't say that they are an alternative to professional lines such as MAC, MUFE, Sigma, Japanesque, Bdellium Toolz, etc. They are good brushes for everyday use.
My only gripe is that, with the exception of the eyeliner brush - which is outstanding, they are overpriced for being "everyday use" brushes.

Considerazioni generali:

Questi pennelli hanno una buona qualità, sebbene non possa affermare che siano alternativi a linee professionali

quali MAC, MUFE, Sigma, Japanesque, Bdellium, etc.

Sono buoni pennelli per l'uso giornaliero.

L'unica mia lamentela è che, ad eccezione del pennello da eyeliner - che è davvero eccezionale, sono troppo cari per essere pennelli da "uso giornaliero" senza tante pretese di precisione.

Bellapierre Compact Mineral Foundation review

As promised, here I am starting with the Bellapierre products reviews.
First of the bunch, it's the Compact Mineral Foundation; a product that promises to be a "5 in 1": concealer, foundation, pressed powder, SPF 15. I know they miss the fifth use for this here. Eheh...

Anyway, this mineral foundation is very much an ingredient-friendly one:

Mica, Zinc Stearate, Zinc Oxide, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) Seed Oil, Lauroyl Lysine, Lonicera Caprifolium(Honeysuckle) Flower Extract May contain: Titanium Dioxide, Iron Oxides, ChromiumOxide Green.

With such a small amount it is highly improbable someone gets any reaction to it. The only difference between this formulation and the loose powder one, lies in Jojoba Oil, which could be responsible for the "downside" of this foundation.

Let's get to it: as I first applied the foundation, with the sponge applicator which was included in the package, I was amazed by the coverage of this foundation. Perfect. Matte finish, concealing effect. I could even forget that I chose the wrong color for me (Latte has reddish undertones. Note to self.). I don't even know how much time passed exactly, because I went to work, but when I looked at myself in the mirror again the foundation looked...misplaced? It looked as if it melted or something, I couldn't even describe that. Probably too much oil? I don't even need oil-free foundations generally, and I had never seen something like that on my skin.
I think it could be the Jojoba Oil because the loose powder version of this foundation gets rave reviews on every site and especially on makeupalley.

Am I using it wrong? Did somebody else have the same reaction to it? I really liked it initially, but I don't think I could ever purchase it because that melting effect, and lack of lasting performance do not justify the 40 euros price tag.

Come promesso iniziocon le recensioni Bellapierre e più precisamente vi parlerò del loro fondotinta minerale compatto (Compact Mineral Foundation). Un prodotto che loro descrivono come 5 in 1: fondotinta, correttore, cipria, schermo di protezione solare 15...sì, si sono dimenticati il quinto uso. eheh.

E' indubbiamente un fondotinta adatto alle persone sensibili all'argomento inci, infatti contiene pochi ingredienti e tutti naturali. Di sopra, nella versione inglese, è riportato l'inci in verde.

L'unica differenza tra questa formulazione e quella del fondotinta in polvere sta nell'olio di Jojoba, che forse è responsabile dell'effetto che vi descriverò più avanti, quello che non mi fa promuovere questo prodotto, a dispetto di tutte le recensioni entusiastiche della versione in polvere trovate su MakeupAlley.

Ebbene, se ad un primo impatto questo prodotto mi ha colpita per la sua coprenza, il suo effetto porcellana, il finish matte, di cui potete aver prova in questo post: , sono poi rimasta amaramente delusa. Perché? Perché dopo qualche ora (non so precisare quante ore perché sono andata al lavoro) sembrava che il fondotinta mi si fosse sciolto in faccia e quindi si stesse spostando un po' dove voleva lui. Non so nemmeno come spiegarlo, dato che è un effetto che non avevo mai visto. Può essere, appunto, per via dell'olio di Jojoba. E' anche strano perché non ho nemmeno bisogno di fondotinta oil-free solitamente.

Ecco, quest'effetta pecca di certo non me lo farà comprare, visto che non giustifica le 40 euro del prezzo.

Dunque vi chiedo, c'è qualcun altro che ha provato questo esatto fondotinta ed ha avuto la stessa reazione? O qualcuno che mi sa dire se lo sto usando male?

An introduction to: Bellapierre cosmetics

A while ago, I was asked to try out some mineral cosmetics from a brand I had never heard of (purely because I had never switched on QVC before); its name is Bellapierre Cosmetics.
So, the lovely PR sent me some presentation files for the company and kindly asked for my preferences of whatever I wanted to try from the site.
Turns out that Bellapierre is a very big competitor for the renowed mineral brand Bare Minerals (and, obviously, Bare Essentuals) and also the best-selling cosmetic line on QVC Italy!

Un po' di tempo fa mi è stato chiesto di provare dei cosmetici minerali di un marchio di cui, fino a quel momento, non sapevo nulla (fondamentalmente perché non avevo mai guardo il canale QVC); il nome di questo marchio è Bellapierre Cosmetics.

Perciò, l'adorabile PR mi inviò dei file di presentazione della ditta e mi chiese gentilmente quali fossero le mie preferenze per i prodotti da provare.

A quanto sembra Bellapierre è uno dei più grandi competitors del rinomato marchio di cosmesi minerale Bare Minerals (e con esso, chiaramente anche Bare Essentuals), nonché la linea cosmetica più venduta su QVC Italia!

Before we venture into the actual reviews of the products I chose, I want to give you some information on the brand, simply because we are all familiar with the afore-mentioned Bare Minerals (and here in Italy, with companies such as Neve Cosmetics and Minerale Puro), but the people who do not watch QVC may not be that familiar with Bellapierre.

Prima di avventurarci nelle vere e proprie recensioni dei prodotti che ho scelto, voglio darvi un po' di informazioni sul marchio, semplicemente perché abbiamo tutti abbastanza familiarità con la sopracitata Bare Minerals (e qui in Italia con marchi quali Neve Cosmetics e Minerale Puro), ma le persone che non guardano QVC potrebbero ignorare in toto l'esistenza di Bellapierre.

Bellapierre is one of the fastest growing mineral make-up companies in the world (cit.). It was conceived by a man named David Oren who, by the time of the creation of his own company, had already had 13 years of expertise in the field of cosmetics manufacturing. After launching his own line of skincare, Mr. Oren sensed that the cosmetic industry was leaning towards new directions; the same directions that new technologies are heading to: nature, organic, clean. This is why, in 2005 he created Bellapierre mineral make-up.

Miss Broadway Blogger Event @ Termemilano

Salve a tutte,
dopo essere tornata dalle vacanze parigine vi voglio parlare di un evento dedicato alle blogger a cui ho preso parte ad inizio mese.
L'evento in questione si è tenuto nella splendida cornice delle Termemilano, in occasione del rilancio della linea Miss Broadway, che certamente tutte noi avremo visto in tutti i supermercati.

Miss Broadway ha deciso di cambiare look, non solo adottando una nuova veste grafica (scelta insieme alle fan tramite la loro pagina facebook!), ma anche riformulando i prodotti, ampliando la gamma (nuovi lanci previsti per l'autunno) e rivoluzionando le confezioni.
Il primo impatto con queste novità lo si ha direttamente con il logo, semplice e chic, che reca in basso un simpatico slogan:

In secondo luogo, attraverso la nuova veste e l'ampliamento della gamma, Miss Broadway (che ricordo, è stata la prima linea di make-up della grande distribuzione in Italia) mira a smettere i panni del trucco per la casalinga di Voghera (come ha ironicamente affermato Marco De Faveris durante l'evento) e diventare una linea professionale e di qualità che è possibile acquistare direttamente al supermercato mentre si fa la spesa in tutta rapidità, senza rubare ulteriore tempo ad una donna moderna, sempre in movimento.

I prodotti di questo marchio, ad eccezione di matite e smalti - prodotti rispettivamente in Germania e Francia, come molto spesso accade nel mondo del make-up con tantissime grandi aziende, sono Made in Italy e mantengono un prezzo veramente concorrenziale. Il costo medio per questa gamma si aggira infatti intorno ai 6 euro.

Dopo averci dato alcune delucidazioni in merito alla storia del marchio, al suo target, al rinnovamento, i gentilissimi organizzatori dell'evento ci hanno anche informate di alcune novità di prossima uscita. Tra queste, a mio parere, hanno spiccato su tutte: gli eyeliner in gel (con un packaging davvero interessante e comodo che permette di avere il pennello sempre a portata di mano, ma ben saldo al resto del prodotto) e gli smalti effetto craquelé (tralascerò qui il discorso inerente alle varie diciture riportate in Italia per questo tipo di effetto. Alcune sono davvero comiche. Sappiate che nel gergo dell'arte si dice "crettatura", cosa che sicuramente non si addice però al marketing dei trucchi. Meglio andare sul francese!) di svariati colori, tutti abbastanza accattivanti.

Ed ora vi lascio a qualche foto della giornata, in cui i meravigliosi signori di Broadway ci hanno omaggiati di puro relax e trattamenti termali.

I had been lusting over Talullah Tu jewellery for a very long time, and the last couple of months I made two orders. Talullah Tu needs no presentation amongst beauty addicts, I think, as we've all got to know about the company through the Pixiwoo sisters' videos and Tanya Burr's videos. Later on, for those of you who follow French channels, the jewellery pieces from the British brand were also displayed in Julie Loves Make-up videos.
Their jewellery is accurately detailed, sturdy, and so original that it complements and spices up every outfit, even the simplest ones.
The prices are not the cheapest, nor expensive. You basically pay for the quality that you get, but sometimes they also have sales, so keep your eyes peeled on the site!

A penny for your thoughts: Illamasqua's The Final Act of Self-Expression service

Not long ago, I received an Illamasqua's newsletter in my e-mail box, advising me of their newest service/initiative, called The Final Act of Self-Expression.
Basically, Illamasqua has started collaborating with funeral directors Leverton & Sons (one of most renowed agencies in Britain) to bring a service offering "professional funeral make-up transformations" for "the ultimate statement of celebration" (cfr. www.illamasqua.com/news/123/).

Non molto tempo fa, ho ricevuto una newsletter di Illamasqua che mi avvisava del loro ultimo servizio/iniziativa, dal nome The Final Act of Self-Expression (espressione anglosassone che indica l'ultimo atto di espressione la propria personalità).

In pratica, Illamasqua ha iniziato una collaborazione con l'agenzia funebre Leverton & Sons (se non la più conosciuta, sicuramente una delle più rinomate agenzie della Gran Bretagna) per offrire un servizio di "trasformazioni e trucco professionale per funerali", per un'"estrema dichiarazione" (cfr. www.illamasqua.com/news/123/ - sito in inglese).

At first, I couldn't believe what my eyes were reading, but then my mind went back to the sight of both my aunt and grandfather in their coffins. They both had a painful death, which was visible on their faces despite the "Monnalisa's smiles" (I can only imagine, arranged by funeral directors). Now, of course, my grandfather - eventhough he was very attentive to his looks when alive - would have never agreed to have make-up on his face, however, I am sure this service would have brought justice to my poor aunt, died of brain tumor, looking fat (because of medicines) and completely different on her funeral.

Di primo acchito, non riuscivo a credere ai miei occhi, ma in seguito la mia mente è andata a ripescare l'immagine di mia zia e di mio nonno nelle rispettive bare. Entrambi hanno avuto una morte dolorosa, che era ben visibile nei loro volti, nonostante gli enigmatici sorrisi à la Gioconda (che, posso solo immaginare, siano opera dell'agenzia funebre). Ora, certamente mio nonno - nonostante fosse un uomo molto attento al proprio aspetto - non sarebbe stato d'accordo con il cospargimento di trucco sul suo viso, invece penso che un servizio di questo tipo avrebbe reso un po' di giustizia alla mia povera zia, morta di tumore cerebrale, ingrassata dai medicinali e completamente diversa nel giorno del suo funerale.

In conclusion, am I pro this service? The jury is still out. Although I think that this can provide some people with dignity (and please, don't get me twisted here. I mean, some people live and die with a great dose of dignity, but the circumstances of their death may leave them looking less then decorous), I am also skeptical of how people can make great money off of dead people faces. I know, it's no different than what funeral directors do, anyway.

Per concludere, sono a favore di questo servizio? Ancora non so. Nonostante pensi che possa restituire un po' di dignità ad alcune persone (e non fraintendetemi su questo punto. Intendo dire che alcune persone conducono una vita molto dignitosa, ma che le circostanze della loro morte spesso lasciano un aspetto non altrettanto dignitoso nei loro poveri volti), sono anche un po' scettica riguardo al fatto che alcuni possano fare dei bei soldoni dai visi delle persone morte. Lo so, non è granché differente rispetto a quanto fanno le agenzie funebri, in ogni caso.

So, I want to ask you, beloved readers: what do you think?
Maybe some of you can raise a good point for me to make up my mind on this service?!

Review: YSL Everlong Mascara

After hearing the hype on the Faux Cils mascara fromYSL, I decided to try the Everlong version that was on offer (for 17 euros) at a local perfumery store this morning.
Little did I know...I have nothing good to say about this product!

Dopo aver sentito tante belle cose riguardo al mascara Faux Cils di YSL, ho deciso di provare la versione Everlong che ho trovato in offerta in una profumeria della mia città proprio stamane.

Se avessi saputo...non avrei buttato un centesimo in quest'acquisto, non ho davvero niente di buono da dire su questo prodotto!

I have to admit that I think the lady that sold me this was trying to be a smart ass, as I suppose the mascara was opened before the sale and it was already dried up. That being said, even with its real formulation this product will do absolutely nothing to your lashes.

Devo ammettere, però, che penso che la signora che me lo ha venduto stesse cercando di fare la furbacchiona, perché suppongo che il mascara fosse stato aperto da prima della vendita e si fosse già seccato da un po'. Detto ciò, anche da nuovo questo mascara non fa veramente un fico secco per le ciglia.

For a product called (and marketed as) Everlong, you will find that it adds literally nothing to your natural lenght. Nor to your natural volume or curve. It does nothing at all!
It has one of those silicone brushes with lots of spiky bristles, and all they do is providing a nice separation.

Sebbene il prodotto si chiami Everlong (e venga pubblicizzato come tale), non aggiunge proprio un bel niente alla lunghezza naturale delle ciglia. Né al volume o l'incurvatura naturale. Insomma, non fa nessun effetto!

Ha uno di quegli scovolini di silicone con tante setole "appuntite", ma tutto quello che si riesce ad ottenere è una buona separazione.

Personally, I wouldn't bother spending all that money in a product that does nothing but tinting my lashes for few hours, so avoid it!
I believe the full price for this is over 23 euros, and I strongly discourage you spend a single penny on this. It was a waste of money for me, and I am certain it will be the same for you.
Two thumbs down, Yves Saint-Laurent! Your mascara goes straight to the bin!

Personalmente, non mi scomoderei a spendere tutti quei soldi per un prodotto che non fa niente più che tingere le mie ciglia per qualche oretta, quindi evitate anche voi!

Credo che ilsuo prezzo pieno sia di 23 euro, e vi scoraggio dallo spenderci su perfino un centesimo.

E' stato davvero uno spreco di denaro per me e quasi certamente lo sarà anche per voi.

Non uno, ma due pollici versi, Yves Saint-Laurent! Il tuo mascara va dritto dritto nel cestino dell'immondizia!

Review and Swatches: Illamasqua Toxic Nature Cream Pigments, Sheer Lipgloss, and Nail Varnish

Back in March, Illamasqua introduced their new Spring/Summer collection, whose name says much about the shades of choice: Toxic Nature.

As usual, the promo imagery was pure art - everytime they put a new collection out you think you've seen the best, but it will surprise you how creative they can be. By far, along with Art of Darkness, this is my fave.

The main feature of this collection is undoubtedly the new Cream Pigments (£ 17,00), a way better version of their past cream eyeshadows (which I own, but could never use if not as a liner because they used to crease ridiculously).
This is what they say about them:

"Six neo-toxic colour mutations create the ultimate in textures on your face, eyes, lips or body. Apply with an Illamasqua brush or simply use your fingers for a buildable, water resistant, highly pigmented finish. Layer under Powder Eye Shadow and Pure Pigments for intensity".
Alex Box, Creative Director of Illamasqua, adds that Cream Pigments are "super-blendable, they can be pressed and blended into skin or slicked on for graphic shapes. Education is the key to pigments. Once you have learnt how to master them, you can control their impact".

What do I think?
Illamasqua's Cream Pigments are the ultimate versatile product. At least 3 out of the 6 shades in the range can be worn on eyes, lips and face without making you look like a clown.
It is really true that they are super-blendable both with brushes or fingers. It is also true that they have a matt and highly pigmented finish. It is amazing how much of a color pay-off you can get by simply dabbing your finger once. They can make great bases on both eyes and lips for other colors, although I am really loving them on their own for now.
As for the water-resistant claim, I can confirm.
One thing that has surprised me a bit is that one year ago, when I was talking to Alex about their past cream eyeshadows, she told me that they were being discontinued because Illamasqua wanted to put out a new product that didn't crease. Fortunately, there is no such claim as "creaseless pigments" in their description, because that isn't the case.
In fact, I noticed that some shades do crease, some others stay put all day. Emerge, a beautiful peach tone, creases like crazy if you don't put a layer of powder onto it. Delirium, on the other hand stays perfectly put even in high humidity and on my oily eyelid. So, like Alex Box said: education is the key. You need to know which of the shades crease on the eyes, and which ones do not. You have to know what you want to do with your Cream Pigments.
One by one, I will tell you my experience and thoughts of the 3 pigments I own:

Emerge: Matt peach that brightens everything up, even under eye shadows. Used on the lids, it provides a neutral chich wash (at least, on my skin tone) of color, used under the eyes, it acts as a color correcting concealer (and it does conceal), but you can also use it as a highlighter on olive skins (or a subtle blusher on very pale skin tones), or as a nude lipstick (alternatively, you can blend it along your outer lips to make them look fuller). This one creases a lot on oily eyelids if you don't use a powder over it.

Dab: a gentle lilac for any season and acts as a great base for blue/indigo/purple powder eyeshadows. For the brave people out there, it can also be used on the lips for a 60's look. Duration: medium. It tends to crease after some hours

Delirium: my favorite! A gorgeous rose taupe shade. It is fantastic on the eyes, on the lips, on the cheeks (paired with red lipstick for an 80's glam look), and as a contour cream. I use it EVERYDAY as a contour cream and think it's the best I've ever tried. A matt contour product is not so easy to find. Duration: great! On me, it stays put for hours and hours.

I was also provided with an artist's palette, so that I can experiment with mixing and matching them, so do expect some experiments from me sooner or later (the palette is also great for mixing foundations, by the way).

There are also two Sheer Lipglosses in the collection, I was sent the the deep fuchsia pink one, called Divine (£13,00).
Super glossy with a hint of color, this is just how I like my lipglosses. Plus, this is non-sticky! Two thumbs up. It looks scary in the tube (although I couldn't make it and photograph its neon color), but it is really cute and sheer on the lips. You'll see the swatches when (and if) you get to the end of this review.

The last product I had the chance to try is their Nail Varnish in Gamma (£ 13,50). I've already reviewed their nail polishes in the past, so I'll spare you some lines (eheh...). However, I must say I am not a fan of neon colors on the nails. I am just not the type. There are some cute varnishes in the collection (think Bacterium, Stagnate and Purity), though.

Review. Estée Lauder Double Wear Stay-in-Place foundation

Com'è pubblicizzato da Estée Lauder questo prodotto (copio direttamente dalla scatola e tra parentesi aggiungerò delle cose, perché ho notato che c'è una "leggera" divergenza nella traduzione italiana):

"Per tutti i tipi di pelle.

Questo fondotinta, dalla formula ancora più leggera (?...Fondotinta dalla tenuta estrema, ma dalla formula leggera), (Double Wear Stay-in-Place) rimane sorprendentemente inalterato fino a 15 ore anche con condizioni atmosferiche estreme (in realtà, nella versione inglese parla di umidità estrema). Non macchia, né si trasferisce sugli abiti. Privo di oli(i) e fragranze. (a questo punto nella versione inglese dice anche che sia non-comedogeno, o non-acnegenico, quale delle due preferite) Dermatologicamente e oftamologicamente testato."

What I think about it (are the claims true?) // Cosa ne penso io (è vero quel che dicono?):

1. For All Skintypes:
being an oil-free foundation, I am not sure this will suit dry-skinned ladies. However, I noticed on my skin (combination, so I have dry to normal areas here and there) that it still manages to look very nice on drier areas of my face (temples, back of the cheeks and jawline, above the cheeks). It certainly does a good job in balancing the different areas of a combination skin.

essendo un fondotinta oil-free, non sono sicura che vada bene per le

ragazze con la pelle secca. Tuttavia ho notato che sulla mia pelle (mista, quindi ho alcune zone più secce qua e là) da comunque un bell'effetto anche nei punti più secchi

(tempie, infondo alle guance, mascella, zigomi).

Sicuramente bilancia bene le diverse zone della pelle mista.

2. Lightweight makeup:
I dissent on that one. Lightweight to me is Diorskin Nude, or Clarins Skin Illusion, or Madina Sublime Touch. Even if you're used to liquid formulas like I am, this doesn't feel light. Not that it feels heavy or looks heavy, but it's a medium to full coverage foundation, therefore do not expect lightweight. Once it is set, though, you'd feel it as light.

2. Formula leggera:

Su quest'affermazione, dissentirei. Formula leggera per me è Diorskin Nude, o lo Skin Illusion di Clarins, o il Sublime Touch di Madina.

Anche se siete abituate alle formule liquide come lo sono io, questo fondotinta non

vi sembrerà affatto leggero. Non che sia pesante o vi trasformi in un cerone,

ma è un fondotinta con coprenza da media a totale, quindi non non potete proprio

aspettarvi che sia leggero. Una volta asciutto, però, vi sembrerà più leggero.

3. Wears comfortably up to 15 hours [...]:
That is absolutely true. I live in Sardinia, and the weather is always very humid here (both winter and especially in summer), but this foundation sets on my skin immediately and lasts all day. Even if you touch your face a lot (like I do) it doesn't transfer or smudge easily. Perfect for those of you who are out all day.

3. Rimane inalterato fino a 15 ore [...]:

Assolutamente vero. Io vivo in Sardegna, dove l'umidità raggiunge delle percentuali

sempre incredibili, sia d'inverno che d'estate, ma qusto fondotinta

si asciuga immediatamente e dura tutto il giorno.

Anche se vi toccate tanto il viso (come faccio io), non si muove da lì. Perfetto per chi sta fuori di casa tutto il giorno.

4. Non acnegenic:
True!

4. Non comedogeno:

Vero!

Further remarks:
Although some (you may hear this through Pixiwoo as well) say this is a full coverage foundation, you must know it is a medium to full coverage one. People who don't have many imperfections on their skin think it's full coverage because it gives them a porcelain doll look, but if you have acne scars like I do, then you'd notice that you may have to add a tiny amount directly on the scars.

Why do I always look that pale? / Perché sembro semper così pallida?

However, I have noticed this happens if you apply it with a brush. If you use your fingers to apply it, you'll get the maximum coverage from it, and your scars will disappear fast. So, definitely, this is a foundation that works better if applied with hands.
Another reason why it's best applied with hands is that it dries in seconds, and if you apply this with a brush, you may end up with some streaks even when you're super fast. Once this foundation is set, there's no way that you can blend it more.
Eventhough it dries really fast, you may notice that your skin doesn't absorb it as fast as it sets. You may want to consider doing your eyes and lips before applying bronzers, or blushers, or whatever face powder you intend to use.

Ulteriori osservazioni:

Anche se capita di sentire (anche da Pixiwoo, ad esempio) che questo fondotinta ha una coprenza

totale, dovete sapere che in realtà è una coprenza da media a totale.

Le persone che non hanno grandi imperfezioni pensano sia totale, perché riesce

subito a donare un effetto "bambola di porcellana", ma se avete delle cicatrici dovute all'acne come me, allora noterete che dovete aggiungerne un pochetto direttamente

sulle cicatrici.

Tuttavia, ho notato che questo succede se usate un pennello; se invece usate

le dita, otterrete una maggiore coprenza (stavolta sul serio totale ed immediata).

Quindi, decisamente questo fondotinta ha prestazioni migliori se applicato con le dita.

Un altro motivo per cui è meglio applicarlo con le dita consiste nel fatto che si

asciuga veramente in due secondi, e se applicato con un pennello rischiate di finire con striscette qua e là anche se siete velocissime a sfumare. Infatti,

una volta che si asciuga non c'è modo di sfumare ulteriormente questo fondotinta.

Anche se si asciuga in maniera molto molto rapida, noterete che la pelle non

lo assorbe così tanto in fretta, per cui sarebbe meglio dedicarsi agli occhi e alle labbra prima di

mettere terra, o blush, o qualsiasi altra polvere viso.

That being said, I do love this foundation for its matte yet not flattening finish (it still manages to look luminous), for its lasting performance.
What I don't like about it is that it costs a lot (€ 38 or more) and that it doesn't come with a pump, which always results in some product waste. Estée Lauder, if you're reading this: for € 38 I really suggest you add a pump if you want me to re-purchase the foundation!!!

Detto ciò, adoro questo fondotinta per il finish matte che però non appiattisce (sembra comunque luminoso) e per la durata.

Quello che non mi piace è il prezzo (€ 38 o anche di più) ed il fatto che non abbia pompetta, il che fa sempre sprecare molto prodotto. Estée Lauder, se mi leggete: per 38 euro, vi suggerisco di aggiungere una pompetta se volete che vi ricompri il fondotinta!!!

Clinique Guida all'idratazione ed al make-up estivo

Arriva il momento più atteso dell’anno: l’estate, la stagione in cui diventa più insistente il desiderio di rinnovarsi, di scoprirsi, di essere più allegri e positivi. Una stagione che richiede particolari attenzioni per la pelle perché sole, aria condizionata, aereo, inquinamento e stress minano l’equilibrio cutaneo, in particolar modo ne indeboliscono la corretta idratazione rendendo la cute più disidratata.
